Power Inverter Selection Guide

Power Inverter Selection Guide

Table of common tools and appliances and their power usage in Watts

To help you decide what power inverter you will need for your particular application(s) we have put together a table of common tools and household appliances to give you an idea of how much power you will need to run them.

If you only want to run a single appliance then the recommended inverter Wattage is probably your best choice and you will just need to decide if you wanted a modifed wave power inverter or a pure sine wave power inverter.

If you want to run multiple appliances/tools at the same time then to select an inverter that will supply enough power for your application simply add the watts for all the items you may want to run at the same time. Once you have the total wattage, then add 10% to 20%, and you have your minimum inverter power requirement.

Please Note: The wattages given in the table below are estimates only. The actual wattage required for your appliances may differ from those listed and these figures should only be used as a guide. We recommend checking the appliance itself to determine the actual wattage required. Any advice or recommendations are to be used as a guide only and we cannot be held liable if you decide to use this information. If you are not sure we strongly recommend contacting the manufacturer of the device(s) in question.

* Appliances and tools with induction motors (marked with * in the table) may require from 3 to 7 times the listed wattage when starting. The start-up load of the appliance or tool determines whether an inverter has the capability to power it. Be sure to check the specific wattage requirements and operating instructions for appliances / tools to be used.

To help with working out your appliance's power, you can use the following conversion formulas:

Watts ÷ 230 = Amps

Amps x 230 = Watts

Please Note: The wattages given in the table below are estimates only. The actual wattage required for your appliances may differ from those listed and these figures should only be used as a guide. We recommend checking the appliance itself to determine the actual wattage required. Any advice or recommendations are to be used as a guide only and we cannot be held liable if you decide to use this information. If you are not sure we strongly recommend contacting the manufacturer of the device(s) in question
